Instructions

  1. 1.
Start by draining the tofu thoroughly. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a weighted object (like a can or small skillet) on top to press out excess moisture for about 10 minutes. This step helps the tofu crisp up beautifully when cooked.
  2. 2.
Heat 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the cubed tofu. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. If the tofu begins to stick, ensure the heat isn't too high and your skillet is evenly oiled.
  3. 3.
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce and grated ginger. Stir this mixture together until well incorporated. Pour the mixture over the tofu in the skillet. Stir gently to coat each piece evenly, ensuring the sauce begins to thicken and glazes the tofu, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. 4.
Add the remaining teaspoon of sesame oil and toss in the sliced scallions. Sauté for an additional minute, allowing the scallions to slightly wilt and their flavor to integrate with the tofu. This step adds a fresh and savory aroma to the dish.
  5. 5.
Once the tofu is evenly coated and the scallions are tender, remove the skillet from the heat. Transfer the glazed tofu and scallions to a serving dish. If the tofu is too salty or too glazed, you can add a touch of hot water to the pan to loosen the sauce before serving.
