⏱️ Cooking Time: 15 minutes | 🍽️ Servings: 1
Instructions
- 1.Start by ensuring the tuna steak is pat dry with a paper towel. This will help achieve a nice sear. Season both sides with a pinch of sea salt and generously coat with freshly ground black pepper. Press the pepper gently into the steak for maximum adhesion and flavor release when cooked.
- 2.Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil shimmers, place the tuna steak carefully into the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, which will keep the tuna juicy and tender. Adjust the time slightly if you prefer it more cooked. If the pan starts to smoke, reduce the heat slightly. Look for a golden crust forming around the edges as a cue for when to flip.
- 3.While the tuna rests, add the fresh spinach to the same skillet. The residual heat will gently wilt the spinach in about 2 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure it cooks evenly and absorbs the flavors left in the pan.
- 4.Once the spinach is wilted, taste and adjust seasoning if needed by adding a pinch of salt. Transfer both the tuna and spinach to a serving plate. Resting the tuna allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every bite is moist and flavorful.
- 5.Serve immediately. If the tuna is cooked through and not to preferred doneness, you can return it briefly to the pan over low heat. For additional flavor, consider a squeeze of lemon juice over the spinach just before serving.
