⏱️ Cooking Time: 15 minutes | 🍽️ Servings: 1

Instructions

  1. 1.
Start by ensuring the tuna steak is pat dry with a paper towel. This will help achieve a nice sear. Season both sides with a pinch of sea salt and generously coat with freshly ground black pepper. Press the pepper gently into the steak for maximum adhesion and flavor release when cooked.
  2. 2.
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil shimmers, place the tuna steak carefully into the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, which will keep the tuna juicy and tender. Adjust the time slightly if you prefer it more cooked. If the pan starts to smoke, reduce the heat slightly. Look for a golden crust forming around the edges as a cue for when to flip.
  3. 3.
While the tuna rests, add the fresh spinach to the same skillet. The residual heat will gently wilt the spinach in about 2 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure it cooks evenly and absorbs the flavors left in the pan.
  4. 4.
Once the spinach is wilted, taste and adjust seasoning if needed by adding a pinch of salt. Transfer both the tuna and spinach to a serving plate. Resting the tuna allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every bite is moist and flavorful.
  5. 5.
Serve immediately. If the tuna is cooked through and not to preferred doneness, you can return it briefly to the pan over low heat. For additional flavor, consider a squeeze of lemon juice over the spinach just before serving.
